If you’re a parent of a young athlete struggling with confidence, frustration, or not having fun in sports, you’re not alone. At Excel Sport Psychology, I work with parents just like you who want to support their kids but feel stuck. You might notice your child saying things like, “I’m not good enough,” “I hate this,” or, “What’s the point?” Maybe they’re shutting down after a tough game, dreading practices, or getting upset easily when things don’t go perfectly. When sports become more about pressure than enjoyment, it can leave parents feeling lost. That’s where I step in.
My goal is to help young athletes find joy in their sport again while developing confidence that lasts both on and off the field. It’s not about fixing the child—there’s nothing wrong with them—but rather helping them navigate the tough emotional and mental challenges that come with competitive sports. Kids today are balancing more than ever, and it’s easy for them to feel weighed down by expectations—whether from coaches, teammates, or even themselves. These pressures can take the fun out of sports, and frustration or self-doubt can creep in quickly.
Many parents tell me they just want their kid to enjoy playing again and feel like themselves. I get that. Together, we work toward rebuilding a healthier mindset where your child can approach their sport with a sense of purpose, have realistic expectations, and learn how to handle setbacks without falling apart. A big part of that process involves learning how to reframe challenges and failures, seeing them as opportunities to grow instead of roadblocks.
What does that mean for you as a parent? I’ll provide you with tools and strategies to support your child without adding more pressure. It can feel like a tightrope walk—balancing encouragement and motivation without making things worse. We’ll talk about practical ways to respond when your child is frustrated or wants to give up, and how to help them shift their focus from outcomes (like winning) to effort and growth. You’ll also learn how to guide them through those tough moments when they feel like they’re not enough. Sessions are conducted virtually at $175 per visit, making it easy to fit into your family’s busy schedule without the added stress of commutting or rearranging your day.
One of the biggest gifts parents can give their kids is perspective. Sometimes young athletes need to hear that it’s okay to struggle and that effort matters more than perfection. I’ll help you understand what your child might be experiencing emotionally and how to provide the right type of support—whether that means giving them space to process their feelings or stepping in with encouragement when they need it most.
At Excel Sport Psychology, I take a team approach. While I primarily work with your child, I believe the parent role is just as important. You are their biggest supporter and influence, and with a little guidance, you can make a huge impact on their confidence and well-being. You’ll learn how to model resilience, normalize failure, and build their sense of identity beyond sport so they aren’t defined by a win-loss record. And when something comes up between sessions, such as a tough game or a difficult week where you are not sure how to help, you can reach me directly. I always respond to calls, texts, and emails within a couple of hours, because the support should not stop when the session ends.
Parenting an athlete can be a rollercoaster, especially when emotions run high and things aren’t going smoothly. But with the right tools, your child can learn to overcome challenges, rediscover their love for the game, and feel good about themselves again. And you’ll feel more confident, too—knowing you’re supporting them in the best way possible without getting stuck in frustration or uncertainty.
If your child is struggling with confidence, frustration, or finding joy in sports, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll work toward getting them back to a place where they can enjoy the game, tackle challenges with a growth mindset, and feel proud of their efforts—no matter the scoreboard. And we’ll make sure you feel equipped and empowered along the way. Most families reach their goals in just 4 to 6 sessions, intentionally space every 2 to 6 weeks to give your child time to apply what we work on. You will always work directly with me, no associates, no waitliss, no being passed along. Just honest, expert support when you need it the most.
